Norfolk and the North Norfolk Coast The North Norfolk coast itself boasts beaches for all tastes - the salt marshes and creeks with their superb sailing, huge expanses of sandy beach at places such as Cromer, Hunstanton and Holkham and Wells-next-the-sea which also have magnificent pine forests in which to walk. There are shingle beaches at Cley-next-the-sea and Salthouse and the coast is famous throughout for its bird-watching.
The interior countryside of Norfolk is equally lovely with its rural backwaters, enchanting small villages and of course the Norfolk Broads within easy reach of Sheringham. Shopping along the coast and in the county is increasingly interesting across a broad range from food to furnishings, clothing, gift shops and galleries. For the discerning shopper there are innumerable stores at the upper echelons of retail - many fabulous boutiques in Norwich and Burnham Market and even a French haute couturier, Francois Bouttier, in nearby Holt.
Equally, with the increasing sophistication of the county, eating out has become a truly exciting experience, with two Michelin-starred chefs cooking on the coast, at The Crown in Wells-next-the-sea, and at the now legendary Morston Hall, an exquisite country house hotel at Morston. The Hoste Arms at Burnham Market is justly famous for its food and atmosphere and Yetmans in Holt is superb. There are also innumerable pubs offering good food across the county. For an excellent guide to eating out and all aspects of Norfolk life, there is a county glossy monthly magazine, Eastern Daily Press Norfolk magazine. In the area are many beautiful estates and great country houses open to the public, and of course the churches of Norfolk are famed for their beauty and history. Prince Charles is President of the Norfolk Churches Trust. We also have the beautiful Sandringham House and gardens open to the public. Norfolk is a perfect blend of qualities for a highly desirable lifestyle, civilised and up-to-date, yet still tranquil and unspoiled. |
