The Town of Sheringham

Sheringham is a small, charming market town on the North Norfolk coast. The area is enjoying a new sophistication while remaining wonderfully unspoilt and uniquely beautiful. From Sheringham House residents enjoy a panoramic view over the town’s flint houses and red roofs to the sea.

There is an excellent range of shops in the town, including interesting clothes shops, a fine bookshop, two chemists, two supermarkets, health food shop and several specialist food stores. Notable is the cheese shop next to the station and of course there are superb fish shops where you can buy the famous Cromer crabs. There are also a number of interesting gift shops and galleries. A large Tesco supermarket is in the planning stage and there is a delightful Saturday market, with a smaller one on Wednesdays.

Transport services from Sheringham are excellent, including the Coast-hopper buses and bus services to Norwich and Kings Lynn. There are also daily coach services to London. Then there is the famous 'Poppy Line' steam train along the coast and inland to nearby Holt.

Other links include the one-hour local train services from Sheringham, linking to the main- line service from Norwich to London Liverpool Street (1 hour 40 minutes). Train and bus services to Norwich can connect with the Jetlink airport coach services from Norwich to Stansted, Heathrow and Gatwick airports. There are also a number of reliable taxi companies in the town, reasonably priced and several offer special rates for journeys to London airports.

Sheringham Beach, North Norfolk coastFor those of a sporting disposition Sheringham has a beautiful golf course beside the sea and within minutes both an indoor and an outdoor bowls club. Sailing is extremely popular on the coast within a few miles of the town.

Sheringham is located near to two well-known and excellent independent schools, Beeston Hall Preparatory School just outside the town, and Greshams in Holt which has Pre-Prep, Preparatory and Senior schools as well as a superb theatre, the Auden, and the Nicholson Gallery. There is also a Junior School and Sheringham High School in the state sector.

Eating out in Sheringham covers a wide range from pubs and coffee shops to a good Indian restaurant and of particular note is No. 10, an excellent restaurant with an emphasis on French food offering a very reasonably priced prix fixe menu on certain evenings.
